The Evolution of Crafter
2015: How It All Started

Morgan Spenla founded The Crafter’s Box in 2015 after realizing how difficult it was to pursue her creative passions and learn new crafts, especially those that utilized beautiful, artisan-made materials.
She decided to change the antiquated way people learn to craft, make, and build with their hands. With the idea of nurturing oneself on a regular basis and embracing the act of slow crafting, a monthly subscription was born.
2018: A Crafter Marketplace
full workshops, tools, & materials
Twice annually, The Crafter’s Box began offering pop-up shops for customers to purchase past subscription boxes. The events became so popular that we built a permanent home for our past workshops (and additional materials) on our website with a permanent Marketplace.
Today, our Marketplace surpasses our subscription in annual revenue in large part due to our workshop offerings, and artisan-quality tools & supplies.
2019: Premium Workshops
an extension of monthly workshops
We quickly realized that our community wanted to learn more in-depth crafts. Our premium workshops are categorized as such when the depth of expertise and the investment in tools & materials extends to a greater interest over one of our ‘standard’ workshops. Examples include building a soldering studio in your garage for exploring stained glass art, investing in an artisan-grade set of carving tools for woodworking, or trying your hand at quilt making with a professional sewing machine.
2022: Rebrand to Crafter.com
building a crafting hub for makers
With the idea of building the ultimate crafting resource for hobby makers and crafters, The Crafter’s Box knew the time had come to rebrand and build a parent company, Crafter.com.
This new and easy-to-remember domain would encompass the current physical craft subscription box and marketplace, and eventually a digital community, a craft subscription box just for kids, and many other offerings still to come.
2022: A Digital Community
offering a host of crafting benefits
The Crafter’s Community was born with our customers in mind. Makers support, enrich, and guide each other. They share feedback, tips, tricks, and (our favorite), photos of their finished projects. Our goal was to create a positive and welcoming place for them to do so.
We started with a Facebook group and launched a digital community in 2022, where we now have regular Crafter Hour meetups, live make-alongs, and exclusive pattern & video content for crafters who wish to continue to expand on their skills.
2023: For the Kids

This subscription was designed to keep kids ages 12 and up learning and engaged while exploring a wide variety of artisan-level crafts.
Every day, parents strive to get their children off of their devices. This monthly crafting experience is the ultimate way to introduce kids to new ways to entertain themselves, all way building a life-long love for making beautiful things with their hands.
