Rya Weaving Workshop
$85.00
Looking to bring a cozy-yet-refined touch to your home decor? Our rya knot weaving kit puts a modern spin on an ancient craft. Using natural roving and wool yarns, fiber artist Maryanne Moodie shows you the (literal) ropes of rya weaving as you make a textured wall hanging. And with its neutral color palette, the project fits right into any space’s style.
Rya weaving originated in Scandinavia, where the technique was used to make rugs and blankets and insulate against the brutal winter climate. These blankets were made with warm double-sided pile and, as time progressed, eventually evolved to be lighter and more colorful. Today, rya knots are used in various weaving techniques.
This workshop includes:
- Tools and materials to make a rya wall hanging
- A detailed, digital workshop by Maryanne Moodie
- A live and recorded Maker Chat Q&A for our community to join in creative conversation
